This 13.1 mile race goes throughout Peninsula State Park, showcasing the beauty of Door County. At 3,776 acres, Peninsula is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Door County. With that, it attracts runners from all over to run in the Door County Half Marathon and Nicolet Bay 5k.

How the Door County Marathon Got to Where It Is Today

The Door County Half Marathon started as an idea over breakfast in January of 2007 at one of the most iconic restaurants in Door County, Al Johnson’s. David Eliot and Lars Johnson had a vision to have a half marathon in Door County in order to show off the beauty of Door County and bring more business in on a typically slow weekend. Door County Half Marathon lodging and dining would help boost the tourism-dependent county. When deciding where to have the race, Peninsula State Park was the obvious choice. It has some of the best views, trails, and landscapes in the peninsula, and no roads would have to be closed off for the race.

After about a year and a half of work and planning, the Door County Half Marathon became a reality. In May of 2008, 581 runners participated in the first Door County Marathon and Nicolet Bay 5k. Since then, it has grown into a race that draws over 2,500 runners to Peninsula State Park. This year marks a decade of the Door County Half Marathon and they are anticipating the most runners yet.

Of the hotels in Ephraim, Wisconsin choosing Ephraim Shores for your Door County Half Marathon lodging is the logical choice. You can’t beat the proximity to the race or the room rates that weekend.
