Robinson Metal partners with educators to encourage skills training
Welding and fabrication jobs are a growing segment of the employment landscape in Wisconsin, and Robinson Metal, Inc., is committed to filling that pipeline with skilled workers through partnerships with northeast Wisconsin educators.
Robinson Metal, one of only three Wisconsin companies named to The Fabricator magazine’s FAB 40 list of largest fabricators in the United States by self-reported revenue, is a growing company that is adding jobs throughout its six divisions and two locations.
“We have welding and fabrication jobs available for qualified workers in a variety of positions within our company,” says Sam Thomas, Robinson Metal operations manager. “Our leadership team recognizes the importance of supporting various educational initiatives geared toward filling our pipeline with viable candidates.”
Robinson Metal is in the middle of a three-year commitment in support of Northeast Wisconsin Technical College’s scholarship program. In honor of their support, the NWTC lab is named Robinson Metal, Inc. Welding Lab.
In addition, the NEW Manufacturing Alliance presented Robinson Metal with its Educational Partnership Award in 2017, in part for the company’s involvement with De Pere High School’s apprenticeship program.
Fabrication jobs contribute to regional economy
The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development office announced in June that the state gained 15,100 manufacturing jobs in the 12-month period ending in May 2018. Wisconsin added the most manufacturing jobs of any state in the first quarter of the year, and its low unemployment rate of 2.9 percent was the eighth-lowest nationally.
The combination of a limited pool of skilled workers and strong availability of employment opportunities is having a positive effect on wages. Robinson Metal provides a range of services, including skid fabrication, custom enclosure fabrication and other projects within its six divisions..
