In Door County, the best food is often hiding in plain sight. Take Good Eggs, a breakfast burrito place at the south end of Ephraim housed in a tiny cottage — if you blink as you’re driving down Highway 42, you’ll miss it! After you get your burrito, you can take it to go or eat at one of the picnic tables outside — it’s one of the best water views in Ephraim (besides ours, of course!). For lunch, head to The Pizza Czar on County Road A in Baileys Harbor. This place flies under the radar, and we’re not sure why — they have the best thin crust pizza in the county. Nature’s Secret Spots
While nearby Peninsula State Park draws crowds, our guests discover equally stunning views at lesser-known locations. Head to Newport State Park in Ellison Bay for eleven miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, 30 miles of hiking trails, and one of the 18 state parks in the United States that’s been designated as a Dark Sky Park from the International Dark Sky Association. It’s a prime destination for anyone who loves gazing at the stars! During the day, head to nearby Ellison Bay Bluff Park, where a stairway leads to awe-inspiring views of the bluffs, the waters of Green Bay, and several islands.
Scoping Out the Southern End of the Peninsula
For many visitors, the northern part of the peninsula is what they think of when they think of Door County. But there’s so much to explore on the southern end of the peninsula in both Sturgeon Bay and the Southern Door Area. History buffs should head to the Belgian Heritage Center in Brussels, which tells the story of the Beligan settlement in Northeast Wisconsin. Just north of Sturgeon Bay in the town of Sevastopol you’ll find The Garden Door, a garden maintained by members of the Door County Master Gardeners Association. Complete with a fairy garden, double kaleidoscope pond, a pollinator garden, and more, it’s a hidden gem.
