Making Campus Connections With Higher Education Furniture

Systems Furniture Has Educational Furniture Solutions

How does a student connect with his or her school, classmates and course material? Part of the answer can be found outside the classroom. At Systems Furniture, we help technical colleges and universities choose higher education furniture solutions and design the informal areas that enhance campus life. Call them welcome areas, student services, cafeterias or lounges; wherever students gather, the furniture helps promote discussion, fun and a positive connection to their school. Here is one of Systems Furniture’s recent projects.

Goal

Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College in Rice Lake, Wisconsin wanted to create a welcoming space for their students to replace their original food service area in a windowless basement. A well-designed and furnished central location would encourage student and staff interaction and an enlarged food service would keep students on campus.

Solutions

Systems Furniture worked with SDS Architects in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and the staff and administration of WITC to create “The Hub” — a space that students are excited to use. A variety of seating areas give students a choice of booths, high top tables with stools, standard tables and chairs and lounge seating. The majority of furniture is easily moved and reconfigured to meet the campus’ many needs like student orientation, social gatherings, performances and everyday food service. Power-data outlets were placed in strategic places for easy access. In addition to the educational furniture, Systems Furniture planned the inviting color scheme and specified interior finishes including flooring, wall finishes, cabinetry and lighting.

Results

The outcome and response was great! Students give the space a rave review, potential students on tour connect with the lively vibe and the administrative staff was so pleased that they used this space as a model for two other campus locations.
