Carbon Fiber Cylinders Becoming More Cost Effective
GREEN BAY, Wis. – A decrease in raw material cost is generating growing demand for superior-performing carbon fiber cylinders manufactured by MECA & Technology Machine Inc.
“Carbon fiber features the strength of steel with only about 25 percent of the weight,” said Mick Karchinski, Vice President of Sales. “The vibration absorption properties of carbon fiber cylinders are fantastic, they require less maintenance and are safer to use.”
The dramatic reduction in weight that exists with carbon fiber generates less inertia, enabling machines to stop much faster than when running mechanically engraved cylinders made from steel. In addition, carbon fiber cylinders do not require heavy-duty bearings.
“The reduction in raw material cost over the past few years is making it easier for our customers to justify the investment,” Karchinski said. “Reduced maintenance costs and the ability to use smaller drive motors make carbon fiber cylinders much more competitive than they were previously.”
