Our guide to wine tasting in Door County

The wine scene in Door County is incredibly diverse, with everything from our famous cherry and fruit-focused sweet wines to hardy grape varieties producing estate-grown wines. If you’re planning to do some wine tasting in Door County, make sure you put these wineries and vineyards on your list:

Anchored Roots Vineyard & Winery: Located just south of Egg Harbor, Anchored Roots is owned by Amy & Eric Gale, who grew up in Wisconsin before heading to Washington State to work in the wine industry. They returned to Door County and opened Anchored Roots in 2020, and offer a dual-portfolio of wines, part locally-grown as they establish their small family estate vineyard in Egg Harbor and part grown in Washington State.

Door Peninsula Winery: A favorite stop for fruit-forward wines, this family-friendly winery and distillery has over 60 different wines and ciders for you to try at one of their two tasting bars. With all that variety, you’re bound to do some serious wine tasting in Door County — and find a few bottles to take home!

Door 44 Winery: This must-visit winery is just south of Sturgeon Bay and is located at the corner of Highway 42 and County Road P. Take in the view of Door 44’s six-acre vineyard and new state-of-the-art facility, taste their award-winning wines, tour the winery, and relax on the patio with a glass of one of your new favorites.

Harbor Ridge Winery: With a motto of “solving the world’s problems, one sip at a time,” Harbor Ridge Winery is just south of Egg Harbor and has a casual vibe — not to mention some great wine names and labels! Try their wine flights, where you can choose between four of their best-selling wines, four seasonal options, or one of two frozen wine granitas. Because wine tasting in Door County should have options, right?

Lake Fire Winery: This downtown Baileys Harbor spot has the distinction of being the only Door County winery that’s on the waterfront. There’s plenty to sample ranging from dry to sweet including red, white, fruit, sparking, dessert, and port-style varieties. In the mood for something different? They also have a rotating selection of hard apple ciders, hard seltzers, and wine cocktails in addition to non-alcoholic sodas. Wine tasting in Door County overlooking Lake Michigan? Yes, please!

Lautenbach’s Orchard Country Winery & Market: Located in Fish Creek, this family-friendly destination offers a variety of activities and events, including a Cherry Fest during the summer, apple picking during the fall, and live music from May through October. Create your own tasting flight by selecting a few of their 50 award-winning wines and hard ciders produced on-site.

Red Oak Winery: Visitors love this Carlsville winery not only because of their collection of semi-sweet, fruit, dry whites, dry reds, and dessert wines, but also because of their extensive bourbon list and four-pour bourbon flights. The spacious tasting room always has plenty of room to stay awhile as well!

Simon Creek Vineyard & Winery: This gem, located on a country road between Jacksonport and Valmy, has a wide range of wines to choose from, including their award-winning Untouchable Red and White blends and their Peninsula Gold, a buttery-hued wine that pairs perfectly with fruit and aged cheese. Come for the wine, stay for the live music every Saturday and Sunday.

Stone’s Throw Winery: Stone’s Throw’s fine wines are all made in-house with premium California grapes, which might make you feel like you’re in Napa instead of wine tasting in Door County! As you sip, you’re welcome to shop at their market, walk around their grounds and gardens, play bocce ball, or eat at their on-site restaurant, Vino! Vino!
